Title:	Investigations of single-particle/hole states with a 26Ne beam
Abstract:	The predictions of new shell behavior near the neutron-rich N=16-20 region can be rigorously tested by comparing with the measured single-particle properties of these nuclei. Transfer reactions provide a powerful and proven spectroscopic tool for determining the single-particle structure and validating other more novel techniques such as nucleon removal or knockout. The TIARA and MUST2 arrays have been combined and deployed with VAMOS and EXOGAM to measure transfer with radioactive SPIRAL beams. Reactions induced on deuteron targets by beams of 20O and 26Ne have recently been studied, building on an earlier TIARA study using 24Ne [1]. The present report focuses mainly on the 2H(26Ne,p)27Ne and 2H(26Ne,t)25Ne reactions. These (d,t) and (d,p) reactions, measured here in inverse kinematics, provide spectroscopic information on the neutron single-hole and single-particle states, respectively, around the emerging N=16 shell closure. In particular, the (d,p) aims to measure the spacing between the neutron d3/2 ground state of 27Ne and the previously unmeasured f7/2 state, explicitly documenting the collapse of the N=20 shell gap. The (d,t) measurement has a different focus, being designed to provide a cross comparison of results obtained by neutron ¿knockout¿ from fast exotic beams and by the traditional transfer method as has been done previously for (d,3He) reactions.
