Title:	Fusion of Polarized Deuterons
Abstract:	It is known for more many years that the polarization of particles changes the differential and the total cross section of nuclear reactions compared to the unpolarized case. For the main fusion reactions t(d,n)4He and 3He(d,p)4He the situations seems to be understood, but the d(d,n)3He and d(d,p)t reactions are more complicated and predictions are difficult. In an experiment, just started at PNPI, polarized atomic beam sources are used to produce a polarized deuterium jet target and a polarized deuteron beam for energies between 10 and 100 keV. The polarization of beam and target will be measured with a Lamb-shift polarimeter. In a first step it is planned to measure the ¿quintet suppression factor¿, the changes of the total cross sections of both reactions when the polarization of beam and target is parallel.
