Title:	An Overview of the High Energy Density Physics Program at FAIR at Darmstadt: The HEDgeHOB Collaboration
Abstract:	We report theoretical work that has shown that the intense heavy ion beam that will be generated by the heavy ion synchrotron, SIS100, at the FAIR facility, can be used to carry out the following four different types of experiments to study High Energy Density (HED) physics. (1) HIHEX: in this scheme the Equation of State (EOS) properties will be investigated by generating large samples of HED matter using isochoric and uniform heating of solid targets by the ion beam. (2) LAPLAS: in this scheme a low-entropy compression of a sample material like water or hydrogen, by the ion beam, will be achieved to generate extreme conditions of density and pressure that are expected to exist in the interiors of the giant planets. These experiments are suitable to study planetary physics. (3) In this experiment the growth of the Richtmyer-Meshkov instability driven by the ion beam in the linear as well as in the non-linear regime will be studied. (4) In the fourth experiment, a ramp type pressure pulse generated by the ion beam will be used to achieve skockless compression of solid targets to study the material properties, like yield strength, under conditions of extreme pressure. These four experimental scheme have been proposed for the HEDgeHOB Collaboration and quantitative details based on numerical simulations are presented in this talk.
