Title:	ICF Fast Ignition at Very High Energy
Abstract:	In order to ignite efficiently the precompressed DT-fuel without any hole boring issues and at a much reduced driver intensity,we investigate the potentialities of relativistic electron beams (REB)in the hundred's MeV energy range to be stopped through a combination of instabilities,either Langmuir[1]or ion- acoustic[2] and numerous reactions involving elastic channels such as electron-ion(Rosenbluth...) and inelastic ones,documenting first electron-positron pairs production and also electro or photo disintegration of deuterium and tritium ions. These inelastic channels are expected to be amplified through hard- Gamma bremsstrahlung. Corresponding cross-sections are shown to be comparable to the REB- target electron one. Actually,a number of competing reaction channels could then produce pions of either sign in significant quantities. We pay a certain attention to the in situ possiblities of pion- catalyzed fusion arising fom the trapping of negative pions by deuterium or tritium ions,in a very dense(Ne~10^26 cm-3)and hot(keV) plasmas.Then it appears possible to consider catalytic processes around a number of 3-or 4-ion systems(Borromeanlike)which can exhibit sufficient stability on fast ignition time scale. A critical evaluation of the relative merits of all these stopping mechanisms will be provided during presentation.
