Title:	Spectroscopic methods for the diagnostics of intense heavy ion beams
Abstract:	In this work the recent results of spectroscopic studies for the focused intense heavy ion beam diagnostics from GSI HHT group are presented. These studies are based on the idea that the spatial beam profile could be distinguished by the fluorescence induced in the gas target by this ion beam. The way to avoid the influence of secondary processes on the beam profile is to measure it using excited ionized states of rare gases. For these states excitation cross sections are negligible for the secondary electrons and still high for the collisions of gas atoms with primary beam particles, these states are also fast and should repeat the time shape of the beam. For spectroscopic studies in GSI the separate clean gas cell and argon as a target gas were used. Spectra from 280 to 950nm for pressures range from 100 to 1500mbar were obtained. Time dependences of overall light output and the spectrally resolved light emission were studied. Values for the vertical dimension of the beam for ionic spectrum part were obtained.
