Title:	Bismuth 2+ ion production by laser ion source
Abstract:	Bismuth 2+ ion production using laser ion source is tested to evaluate the capability of laser ion source as an ion provider for HIF. In a laser ion source, a pulsed high power laser focused onto a solid-state target produces ablation plasma. Charge state distribution of ion is characterized by laser power density on the target. Laser power density about 10^8 ¿ 10^9 W/cm^2 can produce low charge state ions. When laser power is fixed, laser irradiation with higher laser power density generates higher fraction of 2+ ions and lower ion current in case of low charge state ion production, so we need to investigate most suitable laser irradiation condition for Bismuth 2+ production. The results of Bismuth 2+ ion production with Nd:YAG laser ( 1J / 6 ns ) is reported. Also, the requirement of laser for HIF is discussed.
