Title:	Lepton-nucleon scattering measurements, NRQED, and the proton radius puzzle
Abstract:	Precision spectroscopy in atomic hydrogen is limited by uncertainties related to the finite size of the proton. Physical parameters such as the proton charge radius can be extracted from lepton-nucleon scattering measurements, but such extractions demand systematic control over extrapolation to low momentum, and precise calculation of radiative corrections. The status of proton radius determinations in electron scattering versus hydrogen and muonic hydrogen spectroscopy is reviewed. Model independent constraints from QCD analyticity are enforced to control systematic errors in the electron scattering determination. Nonrelativistic QED effective field theory is developed to relate scattering observables to proton structure corrections in muonic hydrogen. Model-dependent assumptions in previous analyses are isolated, and sensitivity to poorly constrained hadronic structure in the two-photon exchange contribution is identified. References: R.J.
