Title:	Muonic Hydrogen: Status and Perspectives
Abstract:	The status of theory for muonic hydrogen is reviewed. The main results are as follows: (i) No significant error has been detected in available theoretical predictions for transition frequencies in the system. Theory is summarized in the papers [Ann. Phys. (N.Y.) 326 (2011) 500, 516] and turns out to be straightforward to calculate on the level of the experimental-theoretical discrepancy. (ii) The calculation of higher-order corrections such as self-energy vacuum-polarization corrections (two-loop) or radiative-recoil effects does not lead to surprises. (iii) Any conceivable virtual particle modifying the transition frequency would also modify the muon g factor prediction, where fair agreement of theory and experiment is observed [Brookhaven g-2 experiment]. This consideration limits the parameter space available for explanations of the discrepancy within the standard model, or more generally, within field theory. The observed discrepancy remains one of the most intriguing aspects of precision physics today.
