Title:	Forward angle electron spectroscopy at the ESR
Abstract:	New insight into fast ion-atom collisions is offered by the modified electron spectrometer recently built at the gas target region of the ESR. High resolution studies of ionization and transfer processes are enabled through the multitude of coincidences, ranging from continuum electrons and X-ray emission to up- and down-charged projectiles. Therefore the simultaneous measurement of ELC (electron loss to continuum), ECC (electron capture to continuum) and RECC (radiative electron capture to continuum) is facilitated, using highly charged non-bare ions. Among these processes, the RECC is of particular interest due to its fundamental connection to electron-nucleus bremsstrahlung. [1] The modified electron spectrometer comprises a new iron free magnetic quadrupole triplet located between two 60° dipole magnets. Electrons of up to 1 MeV, emitted within a cone of about 2° around the beam axis by projectiles of up to 400 MeV/u, are analyzed according to their momentum and mapped telescopically onto a position sensitive detector. Thus, e.g. the electron angular distribution with respect to the bremsstrahlung photon emission direction is accessible within certain limits. [1] M. Nofal, Phys. Rev. Lett. 99 163201 (2007)
