Title:	Micrometer-sized liquid droplet jets for fundamental applications in plasma physics.
Abstract:	We describe a new target system based on a liquid droplet jet of cryogenic gases with a variety of applications including internal-target development and ultra-intense laser-driven plasma generation. The system can operate with the simplest elements such as hydrogen and the noble gases as target material, thus, making it interesting for the multitude of experimental applications. In particular, the spherical symmetry and the fact that they are truly ¿free-standing¿ make droplets especially suited for laser-matter interaction experiments. We will present preliminary results on the study of heating and expansion dynamics of mass-limited liquid argon droplets irradiated with the high-intensity pulses from the PHELIX laser facility at GSI and on laser-driven proton acceleration from pure micrometer-sized hydrogen droplets investigated at the JETI laser system at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Jena.
