Title:	Atomic Physcis in Dense Plasmas
Abstract:	Atomic physics in dense plasmas is a challenging field of reserach and provides the basic foundations of radiative and absorption properties of dense matter. The correlated motion of charged particles is at the origin of a complex evolution of the electric microfield which in turn influences on all atomic properties and particle statistics. The isolated particle picture breakes down and the atomic Coulomb field is seriously perturbed. Stark broadening, level depression and continuum shifts are identified since long, however, their proper description for dense strongly coupled plasmas and particular for the Warm Dense Matter regime is still under discussion. This talk will provide an overview of recent approaches to study atomic physics properties under extrme conditions. Particlar approaches using intense heavy ion beams as well as intense free-electron X-ray laser radiation will be presented. Finally, recent activities at the research center LULI (kilojoule ns and ps lasers) will be discussed which are devoted to investigate the influence of a dense environment to quantum mechanical properties.
