Title of talk:	Rescattering effects in meson decays
Abstract:	Final-state interactions in decays into three mesons with small excess energy can be analyzed in a variant of non-relativistic effective field theory [1], originally developed to study cusp effects (see Ref. [2] and references therein for a review of various applications). Such rescattering effects are of high importance in $\eta \to 3\pi$, which plays a central role in precision determinations of the light quark mass ratios. We have analyzed the Dalitz plot parameters for this decay [3] and in particular can reconcile the precise experimental values for the $\eta \to 3\pi^0$ slope parameter $\alpha$ with seemingly unsuccessful chiral predictions. To obtain reliable descriptions of final-state interactions also at somewhat higher energies, one has to resort to dispersion theoretical treatments (see e.g. Ref. [4] for recent work), which we are currently applying to hadronic $\eta'$ decays. Perspectives and physics issues to extend these methods to $D$ meson decays will also be discussed. [1] G.
