The MINIBALL project
For the upcoming new generation of radioactive beam facilities in Europe
highly efficient gamma detection arrays are required. In contrast to the
EUROBALL array the total full energy efficiency and not the resolving power
has to be optimized since the envisaged physics program will concentrate on
low spin applications. With the planned MINIBALL array almost a factor of two
can be gained in efficiency compared with EUROBALL.
The basic MINIBALL element is a six-fold segmented encapsulated Ge-detector
of Cluster element shape.
The array will consist of 42 of these elements packed to clusters of three
modules to provide a high level of flexibility.
